Originally dangerous and untamed, Bucephalus was the legendary battle horse of Alexander the Great. The faithful companion of one of the most powerful rulers has become a lasting component of the history of human conceptual universe. The quadruped proudly lending its the back to the mighty warrior has returned for good, becoming an inherent part of the cultural legacy. Today, Bucephalus rises high yet again, as if opposing the intentions of tyrants to subjugate the world, and the horse’s wise, deep gaze expresses a bond both with man and human history. He is sculpted on stilts that bind him to the ground like roots, while allowing him to soar to a safe height. Protected by a symbolic armour surrounding the right side of the pastern, he is an exquisite metaphor for the strength and courage of the hero, who was the role model for Alexander the Great since his childhood: Achilles.

The author of the monumental Bucephalus’ sculpture, Andjé, an artist of Polish origin, is recognised as one of the most outstanding contemporary artists. To glorify the values that transcend all kinds of divisions, he created a sculpture that produced a unique stir in the world of art. Its history, message, and master craftsmanship may well leave the spectators spellbound yet again and make Poland shine on the international arena once more. This dynamic work, a unique representation of the famous horse of Alexander the Great, is a symbol of tolerance and beauty. The valiant Bucephalus saved the life of his master, one of the most powerful rulers in the world, more than once.
Now, majestic and monumental, while also fantastical and mythical, it proudly advances the mission of peace and reconciliation. Potent both in terms of sheer volume and symbolism, it will remain deeply ingrained in everyone’s memory.
“Reconciliation, freedom,
generosity, idealism and tolerance represent human qualities which, hopefully, are manifest in my work”
-Andrzej Andjé Pietrzyk

Seglawi, Keheilan, Abeyan, Hadban and Hamdani are the five mares who, as the story says, obeyed the call of the prophet Mohammed, presented until today as an important part of history: a history both beautiful and intricate, which has created a unique bond between two distant countries. An occasion now offers to recall with full recognition the strength of the fundamental values which, despite the time passing, continue to strengthen the sense of affinity between Our Nations.
“God then took a handful of south wind, inspired it with his breath and thus created a horse. He said unto him: (…) I have chosen you from among all the draught animals and made your master your friend; I have given you strength to fly without wings”
-Fragment of the Bedouin legend about the origin
of the Arabian horse
